Welcome to Alexander's World

This is my world ... glad you could join me. Welcome to a life unfolding -- in pictures, poems and prose.

The latest news is I finally joined the blogging generation. You can find the daily stuff here: SensualPoet's Blog or start here for the initial post. As always, drop me a note to tell me what you think.

Alexander in Key West - Feb, 2003
What can I say? I'm obviously not a columnist. The attempt to write a periodic column, For What It's Worth with reflections on current affairs, politics at home and abroad and reflections on topical events -- turned out to be a bust. The archived columns remain. Hopefully whether you agree or disagree with what you find in this section, you will find frequently the column to be "a good read".

The only pieces in FWIW were: Feb 28, 2003: Introduction; The War; The Helicopters; Mar 1, 2003: Turkish Non-Delight; Responsible Use of WMD; Blair's Rebels; Mar 2, 2003: PC Leadership Debate; Mar 3, 2003: Ethics?; Cruel Compensation; Mar 4, 2003: Where in the World is Khalid Sheikh Mohammed?.

You'll find some picture essays such as last June's trip to Erie, Columbus, Pittsburgh, Philadelphia and Tanglewood. Buried here and there you'll also find a couple of pics taken four years ago on a trip to the Shetland Islands and from Moscow.

There is an ongoing collection of essays, the most recent being a call for new political vision in Canada's Defences in Shambles. Also included is a plea for open adoption records for adults Ontario's Bill 77 Delayed, a recounting of last year's birthday celebrations About Birthdays And Ghosts and Coming Out Gay at 16. You'll also find a review of the movie Chocolat, an essay on Names and Their Meaning, another essay about The Times We Live In.

There is fiction, too, including the recent Forever, Brothers about a man who is adopted, and gay, and seeks out his birth mother and in the process discovers a new meaning for 'brothers'.

For better or for verse, there are also some poems I wrote in the full throes of teen angst from 1970-73, recorded in 1974, and newly minted in .mp3 format. And two new poems, the first in about thirty years, Remembrance of a First Lover and Meditation on Intimacy and Ecstasy. There are also lots more pics of me growing up and in recent times. And more: see the index at the bottom of each page.

Most importantly, you'll find the story of my quest to find my birth family. I was adopted by a very loving family just eleven weeks after I was born and raised with many fine opportunities and privileges in the safe and bustling Toronto, Canada. Yet when I turned 45, it suddenly became important for me to find and connect with my birth family. There are pics of the reunion with my dad, sister and brother last May.

I hope you'll be fascinated and sometimes moved by the stories in these pages. Please take a moment and fill in the comments page and let me know what you think.

Cheers,
Alexander Inglis

This is a favourite shot of me, very happy toward the end of July, 1998, hiking in the Shetland Islands.
