This is the story of two friends travelling 3000 km in
six days meeting a dozen online friends.
About a year ago, I first encountered DJ, a wonderful
professor at a local Ontario university through an e-mail
mailing list called HOW* (Husbands Out to Wives). After
sharing a few public and private posts, DJ and I met for
dinner one night at
Zeldas, a whacky restaurant in Toronto's gay village.
We hit it off instantly and dinner "drag-ged" out to over
three hours of intense and delightful chat about life and
friendship.
Since then, DJ and I have organized two dinners for
other HOW members, local to Toronto and those visiting
from across the US. (A report of the April, 2002 Toronto
dinner is online
here.) Now it was time for us to go visiting other HOW
guys in their local cities. This is the story of that trip
from early June.

| Well, here's your hero in a spiffy rainbow belt (keep watching for it; there's a test at the end), white jeans for comfort and style, a nice tight blue top to match my eyes and caress my nipples (whoops! did I say that?) and of course the derigeur backpack for all smart roadies. The shells around my neck are from Hawaii, a gift last summer from Kent. |

DJ is dashing in his white, yellow, black polo top and as
you can see has been waiting for Alexander at the subway.
After a quick stash of the backpack into the trunk, we're
off. It's about 9:15 Tuesday morning and the traffic is
light heading south to the border. We were through customs
and in Buffalo a couple of hours later and, after a
delightful spin around the block a few times looking for
the I-90 exit, we were on our way to ... lunch! It
was also the start of the rain which ended around Friday. (Not shown: my signature Maxell nylon bag with books, CDs, maps and, of course, Teddy, who goes on all my trips.) |

Next: Lunch in Erie, PA For more information about the group HOW, or to join the list, please send me an e-mail here preferably with "HOW Request" in the subject line. (I get tons of e-mail and don't want to miss yours.) |
