Alexander's World US Road Trip 2002: Erie

This is the story of two friends travelling 3000 km in six days meeting a dozen online friends.

Going to lunch in Erie, PA, a 3.5 hour drive from Toronto, is a damn sight better than lunch in Buffalo. Think about it.

So we managed to successfully negotiate life in the fast lane (thank gawd for cell phones), and, once a specific time and place to meet in Erie was established, we met our friends John and Bill, from Erie, in Erie, at Appleby's. We also discovered John likes to sleep in and when he didn't pick up, we had to call Bill at the office. Even on the road, I just can't put the phone down for long!.

[John, Bill, Alexander and DJ in this pic. So who took the pic? Teddy?]

DJ met John and Bill on another online mailing list, not HOW, and I had the pleasure of meeting them both when they travelled to Toronto in mid-May. That was my first time at a Gen-X Bear night at the Toolbox! (Scary!) Lunch was a lot less scary on this occasion and as you can see, DJ is smiling as usual. We had a leisurely lunch (it stopped raining while we were inside) and caught up with the goings-on of my long term friends, already known for three weeks. LOL. Ok, so DJ knows them from a way back. Bill is delightfully articulate; John is quieter and I suspect very cuddly. Ten points to each!
As far as I know, there are no Appleby's in Canada; certainly not in downtown Toronto. The meal was good but what the heck is that putting deep fried shrimp in a caeser salad?!? I started the trip as I ended it ... eating like a piglet. How was I to know "large" was "huge"? And I had an appetizer to boot. (Please don't send me any e-mails about the weight I gained on the course of this trip. They will be returned unopened.) Well, all good things come to an end and so did lunch. After hugs all round, we were soon gassed up and ready to hit the road again.

Next stop: Ohio!
