Toronto Gay Pride Week 2002 was officially the 22nd year
of gay pride festivities in our city.
This was a sad year for me in that, with the closing of my
company, Toronto Web Services, Inc., I was only a spectator
at Toronto Gay Pride Week. Well, not quite. :-) I partied
my buns off this year! It was an awesome celebration in
every sense for me.

In this shot, taken on the steps of my apartment building, Irwin, John, AndrewA, Duane, Mike, AndrewB, Joe, Alexander (that's me!) and James. A group of about 18 of us met at my apartment to arrive en masse at the corner of Gloucester and Yonge St to hang out for the Sunday Parade. (According to press reports, at least 850,000 others joined us. It was very humid and hot -- typical weather for Pride Sunday.) Here are some of the folks in a group shot representing Toronto, Hong Kong, Hawaii, Columbus OH, New York, Detroit, Kitchener-Waterloo, Wisconsin -- even Newmarket! |

You'll recognize some of the faces as men from HOW (Husbands Out
to Wives); cf. US Road Trip, June 2002.
John and Duane (from Columbus, OH), in particular, make a wonderful
couple and, having had a visit with them no less than four times in
six months, it appears I see them more often than several friends
who live in Toronto!
In this shot, Irwin, John, Duane, DJ and Dan. |
| Michael (middle) and I had met previously for a very pleasant brunch at PJ Melon's in February. A regular visitor to the city, this was his first Pride here and he brought his friend Max (left) with him from Hawaii. Asad, on the other hand, needs no introduction to our city and, as I discovered recently, is a great dancer. |

Mike, a good friend of DJ's, was visiting Toronto for the third time in several months. He's always quick on the draw with a clever turn-of-phrase and a delightful off-the-wall perspective. He is standing next to Lisa and ML. |
| Here Joe and AndrewB are enjoying a break from the sights on the streets behind them. The parade was long -- nearly three hours from the time it was supposed to start to the time the last float passed us by. |

I recently had the good fortune to reunite with an old friend, Andrew, on my birthday at the InsideOut Film Festival on May 16. He joined us, looking like a Lost Arc Raider -- very spiffy! Standing next to him: Graham, providing rainbow umbrella shade, and Julian. Missing in this shot: Glen, Julian and Graham's friend visiting from New York. Oh, and sorry about my thumb on the lens, Julian, babe! |
