Toronto Gay Pride Week 2002 was officially the 22nd year
of gay pride festivities in our city.
Although Gay Pride Week is a celebration for those of us
openly gay in the community, it is also a chance for those
closetted, and those who are our str8 and bi friends and
family, to join us in an affirmation of the love found in
diversity.

| PFLAG (Parents and Friends of Lesbians and Gays) was in full force with chapters represented from many locations, including, of course, Canada's gay Mecca, Toronto, but also seen were entries further afield from smaller Ontario communities and from border states such as New York. |

One of the biggest news stories in our community this year was the court battle to allow 17 y/o Marc Hall to attend his Prom Night at the Catholic school he attended in Durham region. Here he is at the centre of the MCC float, which also sported two same-sex couples re-enacting their marriage ceremony, the registration of which hits the courts again on July 12, 2002. |
| More than one entry celebrated gay youth, including one featuring the Rainbow Triangle Program, a part of the Toronto District School Board -- a high school for gay youth. The one shown here reminds us teenagers are sexual before age 18 and the scarcity of support is like being in prison. |

Toronto's latino population always puts on a colourful display at Pride and this year the entry was immense with several street-wide costumes, marchers, and a massive float with Mardi-Gras style masks four feet wide and a very impressive collection of buff bois dancing and singing "Hola!". |
| And who in the crowd wasn't drooling waiting for the Showcase float featuring "Queer as Folk" cast members and a gorgeous assortment of circuit party bods who were extras in some of the hot dance club scenes in Babylon? |
